Plasterboard Painting in Bradford

Plasterboard Painting in Bradford by Bradford Decorators, professional painters

Plasterboard painting from Bradford Decorators covers new builds, extensions, and loft conversions throughout Shipley, Baildon, Eccleshill, and the wider district.

  • Freshly plastered walls and ceilings across new builds and extensions
  • Sealing coat application to new plaster before any topcoats
  • First and second fix decoration on new build sites
  • Plasterboard preparation and painting on garden rooms and conversions
  • Plaster repairs integrated with fresh decoration

Freshly plastered surfaces are unforgiving. Miss the sealing coat, use the wrong primer, or rush the drying time and the topcoats will lift, blister, or leave an uneven finish that shows under any raking light. We follow the correct process on every new plaster job, without exception.

Plasterboard Painting Services in Bradford

### Freshly Plastered Walls Fresh plaster is porous and alkaline. Standard emulsion applied directly will be absorbed unevenly, leaving patches and a poor surface for subsequent coats.

We assess plaster cure before touching it. Plaster changes colour from dark pink to a consistent pale buff as it dries.

We do not begin sealing coat application until we are satisfied the plaster is ready. Rushing this stage causes problems that cannot be undone without stripping back.

Sealing Coat Application in Bradford by Bradford Decorators
First and Second Fix in Bradford by Bradford Decorators

Sealing Coat Application

A sealing coat is a heavily diluted emulsion, typically three parts paint to one part water. It soaks into the plaster surface, seals the porosity, and creates a key for topcoats.

We apply sealing coats by roller, working quickly to avoid lap marks on the absorbent surface. We allow full drying time before applying the first topcoat.

The sealing coat is a preparation stage. Skipping it or substituting a neat coat directly on new plaster produces a surface that fails.

First and Second Fix

First fix decoration covers the basic applied coats before skirting boards, architraves, and door linings are fitted. Second fix is the finish coat applied after all joinery is installed.

We coordinate with your builder or project manager to work at the right phase. We do not apply finish coats before joinery is in place if there is any risk of subsequent trades damaging the surface.

New Build and Extension

Bradford’s expanding suburban edges in Eccleshill and Allerton include new build housing, and the district’s Victorian stock regularly sees extensions and loft conversions. Both contexts involve fresh plasterboard and new plaster.

We have worked on single-room extensions alongside renovations in Heaton, and on full new-build fit-outs across Bradford’s newer residential developments. We understand the pace these projects run at and we sequence our work to fit.

Plaster Repair and Preparation

Extensions and conversions often expose adjoining original plaster alongside new plasterboard. The two surfaces behave differently and require different primers.

We assess both surfaces and prime accordingly. Original plaster in good condition gets a standard bonding primer.

New plaster and plasterboard get the correct sealing coat sequence. We do not treat both surfaces the same way simply because they sit alongside each other.

How It Works

1. Preparation

We fill any nail pops, tape joints, and surface imperfections in new plasterboard. We sand flat any ridges or high points that would show under paint.

2. Sealing coat

We apply a diluted emulsion sealing coat to all new plaster and fresh plasterboard. We allow full drying time before any topcoat is applied.

3. Topcoats

We apply two coats of finish emulsion, sanding lightly between coats where required. Ceilings and walls are completed to a consistent, flat finish.

4. Inspection

We check the finished surface under raking light for any misses, patches, or surface defects. We touch up before leaving and walk through the finished

Plasterboard Painting Costs in Bradford

Prices below are estimates only. Every job is different.

Call 01274 003166 for a precise quote. A single newly plastered room, including sealing coat and two finish coats, typically runs from £250 to £450.

A full three-bedroom new-build or whole-house loft conversion fit-out, covering all walls and ceilings across multiple rooms, typically runs from £1,200 to £2,800.

Three things drive the price:** – **Room count and surface area

More rooms and more square metres increase material and time proportionally.

  • Ceiling height. Bradford’s older Victorian terraces converted into flats, or properties with loft conversions with vaulted sections, take longer than standard eight-foot ceilings.
  • Access and project phasing. Work that needs to be sequenced around other trades, or carried out in multiple visits to allow for cure and drying, takes longer to complete than a straightforward empty property.
Extensions in Heaton and Allerton often combine new plaster with adjoining original walls.

We quote these as a combined scope and will always identify clearly what each element of the price covers. Call 01274 003166 to arrange a visit and written quote.
